Welcome!

The Faithful Skeptic and I would like to welcome you to our new blog. We have some previous blogging experience, but started this new blog because we decided to go "semi-anonymous." I at least mentioned this at my old blog before effectively leaving, but here's a basic summary:
  • We both hold some opinions which are "controversial" and some views which are not politically correct (or whatever buzz word you prefer).
  • We're not ashamed of those views, but we also would prefer to keep them separate from our public/professional lives. For example, as I wrap up my degree I am starting to look for new jobs, and in a competitive job market I don't need a HR manager to turn down my application because he thinks I'm a bigot for opposing the legal recognition of "gay marriage."
  • We've seen some rumblings of persecution against conservative Christians (Catholic or otherwise) in the US: largely in the form of lawsuits over services not rendered and vandalism against churches (and think tanks), plus the occasional death threat. This is largely directed against people who are on the right side of the culture wars (pro-life, pro-family, pro-"traditional marriage," etc.) by those on the far left side. We expect this kind of thing to increase in both intensity and frequency as the culture itself is moved to decline and eventually collapse.
  • Even with persecution (etc.) aside, since neither of us is a professional blogger, we both will have (hopefully) day jobs to attend. While we are both happy to have meaningful discussions about faith during breaks at work, there comes a point in time when it's better to not have every little thing we've ever written attached to our names. It's one thing to defend our views in this space, but another thing entirely to have to do the same with random colleagues at work during every break.
  • There are also some reasons which have to do with evangelism and catechesis, but those could be a whole other post of their own.

So much for our reasons for going quasi-anonymous (honestly, a little bit of work and those who do not know us can still figure out who we are). I think that in the previous discussion I pretty much covered what this blog will be about. We'll write a bit about whatever comes to mind; we're conservative, Catholic, and we care about the culture. There will be posts on everything from the culture wars to economics to politics to religion to whatever it is that we're reading about this week. We'll do some philosophizing and theologizing and speculating, some apologetics, some catechesis, and some simple observations on the culture itself.

We hope you enjoy it. And welcome back to our old readers--we're glad you found us, but no fair revealing names. We'll link others by name if they give their names on their blogs, but otherwise we'll use their screenames (for the most part).
