In Their Shoes

Much ado has been made of Texas state Senator Wendy Davis' pink shoes. These are the ones which she wore during the infamous filibuster, which became a news item and fashion trend overnight (because her shoes are more important than anything she said, I guess). These pink shoes may be a fashion trend now, but  state Senator Bob Duell, MD, made a move which is evocative of Bastiat when he pointed to that which is not seen.

He did this by simply holding up a pair of empty baby shoes. Those empty shoes may speak volumes, and we can only pray that those volumes will be heard. It is, after all, a weekly occurrence in Texas that thousands of voices cry out in pain, and then are suddenly silenced.
