New York Times: Once Upon a Time, Newspapers Were Used for Propaganda

The New York Times has a story about how union soldiers reacted to the news that Lee had destroyed Meade's army at Gettysburg, and how Grant's army had been prevented from taking Vicksburg. Of course, that's not how history actually played out, but it's what the Confederate papers reported. This is because those papers considered propaganda more important than actual reporting of the news.

The ironic thing about this is that the New York Times is especially bad about doing this same thing.
